At MAC we run an alternative curriculum programme for young people currently not in full time education. The aim of the programme is to develop skills to integrate the student back into mainstream provision or if this is not appropriate into further training or employment.
The course is highly practical using media skills. The students can choose their own learning pathway in either Music, Photography, Art or Video. In order to meet the often complex needs of some children the all pupils are given a personal mentor on starting the course and learning groups are kept very small, the maximum ratio being 1 tutor to 4 learners.
Support is offered in parallel to the learning by the MAC counsellor and on site substance misuse worker. Referral to this programme is only from the pupil’s statutory education provider. E.g. schools, educational welfare officer, pupil support. Accreditation is delivered through Agored Cymru and BTEC.
Numeracy and Literacy is inherent in the programme and we also have a dedicated essential skills tutor two days a week.
We actively encourage all stakeholders to come to MAC and take the tour of what we do and meet the staff team.
